One of the quiet perks of living in Yallingup is that a proper long lunch is never more than a short drive away. The northern end of the Margaret River wine region is compact enough to do properly without an entire day in the car, and locals tend to have a rotation of two or three favourites rather than a bucket list.

Here's ours.

Start at Wills Domain, tucked on Brash Road with sweeping valley views and a menu built around what's in season. It's the kind of cellar door you can happily lose two hours at without meaning to.

From there, Aravina Estate on Thornton Road is a family favourite - a beautiful cellar door, a genuinely good kitchen, gardens to wander, and a car museum that keeps non-wine-drinkers entertained. Kids run free on the lawn while the adults linger over a glass.

For something more relaxed, Swings & Roundabouts leans into its name - giant lawn swings, woodfired pizza, and a dog-friendly atmosphere that makes it an easy Sunday session rather than a formal affair.

Prefer beer or a pub-style lunch instead? Caves House Hotel, opened back in 1903 near Ngilgi Cave, is the region's original long-lunch destination and still one of the best.

Local tip: three cellar doors is the realistic ceiling for one day, and most now recommend booking ahead, especially on weekends. Whichever route you take, it's a reminder of why people move to this pocket of the South West in the first place - a proper long lunch, without the logistics of a day trip.
